Gaim forced to change name, on a trademark registered after they started the project.

Gaim.sourceforge.net is now redirected to pidgin.im. Several of my friends have already informed me that Gaim has been forced to change it's name because AOL is being a whiner.

A quote from their news release regarding the name change.

"Our legal support has changed several times, and each group of lawyers have recommended silence & secrecy. Around the time of Gaim's first 2.0.0 beta, AOL came back into our lives in a very strong way, this time threatening to sue Sean.
This represents a clear pattern. AOL received more pushback than they expected, and would sort of let things stand for a while. Then they would threaten a different Gaim developer. Each time a new Gaim developer was threatened, we had to look at new legal support, to prevent a conflict of interest."

I asked a friend what pidgin is, and he responded " pidgin english, language on pacific islands,
and in murker." I agree with kenif's assessment that AOL's behavior makes them look like "wankers."

Sensationalist headlines

Look at the digg headline versus the actual article. Do we have no shame?

Clearly the study measured the rate as 73% higher than average, not 73% of all women with breast implants commit suicide. People would be dying in the streets if this were true.

For sale, one useless cat.

This page amused me for a few minutes today.

For Sale, one useless cat

My cat however, tiger, has been known to attack a doberman on occasion, and he is 17 years old with no teeth and is declawed. He goes by the fear factor, jumping for the eyes while hissing that tends to drive the dog away.

Good kitty!

I want to check out this article later entitled "the perfect setup - debian etch"

It basically walks you through setting up a box for web hosting.

Mail Foundry

Was looking around for a hosted anti spam system that replaces your primary MX servers. This one looked interesting.

I dont really know if we will end up using it, but it does not require an onsite box to manage, which is pretty handy.
